Metro Dog Co. Valentine’s Dog Meet — Review

Like so many, I had no Valentine’s plans this weekend until my flatmate made an incredible discovery. The Metro Dog Company, a business based in Liverpool that organises social events for dogs and their owners, were hosting a Valentine’s-themed dog event. While the event was predominantly for dog owners, anyone could come along. Both me and my flatmate really miss our dogs while we’re away from home, so we weren’t going to pass up the chance to meet some pooches.

The Details

The event took place at Moloko, and this is just about the only time you’ll see me in the club. For those who aren’t au fait with the city’s clubbing scene, Moloko is in Concert Square and is just a minute’s walk from Bold Street.

Tickets were free for the VIPups and children, but adults accompanying dogs did have to pay to enter. Non dog owner tickets were also available, with a student rate of £5 plus £1 booking fee.

There were three sessions, and we opted for the 14:00-15:30 slot. We didn’t stay for the whole time, because without a dog we couldn’t make full use of all the activities.

The Event Experience

It was a little daunting to go into the event without a dog, but after a few minutes to build up our confidence it was really nice to meet some lovely pooches and their owners. I loved the chance to chat with people about my own dog, as well as hearing some brilliant stories from truly passionate dog people. One of the organisers Amy was really generous, and let us adopt her super chill Chihuahua Lily for a little while. The whole atmosphere was super friendly, and we both felt very welcomed.

The Event Amenities

There were a series of cute photo opportunities for the dogs, as well as a professional photographer. It will have been a great opportunity to get some quality photos of your dog instead of paying for an expensive photoshoot.

The dogs were treated to unlimited Pup Cups, which were extremely popular. Everyone was also given a goodie bag on entry with a variety of treats for their dogs to enjoy.

Us humans weren’t neglected, either. As the event was taking place in a club/bar, you could purchase an immense variety of alcoholic and soft drinks. There were also no restrictions on bringing your own refreshments, and I did spy a dog enjoying the corner of a Gregg’s Sausage Roll.

There were also some shopping stalls selling raw dog treats, handmade dog accessories and 3D Printed dog tags. It was a great chance to pick up some unique gifts for the dogs in your life.

The Dogs

The stars of the show were of course the fabulous dogs. They all dressed in their finery and were all super well-behaved. I have endeavoured to remember as many names as I can, but unfortunately, I was a little distracted by my cuddle duties and slacked on my serious journalist duties.

The enthusiastic French Bulldog Ronnie
Lily, the cool and calm Chihuahua
Speedy Blaze enjoying a Pup Cup
Roscoe! A Shih Tzu, also making use of the unlimited Pup Cups
The gorgeous Daisy-Rose. She had a fetching Valentine’s Dress to mark the occasion.
Patterdale-Poodle cross Jerry. A very handsome gentleman.
Another cute cross-breed, this time a Shih-tzu Pug mix
The dapper Tiny. He may be small, but he has excellent charisma.
Tiny’s Yorkshire Terrier pals.

Overall

The event was a brilliant way to pass a Sunday afternoon. I am definitely going to attend more events put on by the Metro Dog Company, and would thoroughly recommend all dog-lovers do the same.
